Radiovågen and Livemusiklyftet create space for a wider range of musical expressions

STIM will pay out in June for Radiovågen and Livemusiklyftet, two initiatives aimed at increasing musical diversity, supporting continued creation, and promoting renewal in Swedish musical life.

Both initiatives target music that represents a wide range of musical expressions but has not yet achieved major commercial success. The work is based on five principles: inclusion, targeting, transparency, dynamism and evaluation. This means the support should reach the right repertoire, be clear in its design, and be able to develop over time based on the needs of the music scene.

Livemusiklyftet highlights music creators whose works have been performed live. This means that one or more works have been performed at one of the nearly 300 selected venues covered by the initiative. By assessing venues around the country, repertoires that contribute to musical and geographic breadth are identified. Which venues are included may change over time, making the initiative responsive to how the music scene develops.

Radiovågen operates in a similar way for music that has been played on Sveriges Radio. The selection comes from Sveriges Radio's channels and programs that focus on music that has not yet reached broad commercial success. It concerns repertoire that reflects musical diversity and contributes to a range of musical expressions on the radio.

Rights holders within both initiatives can receive a royalty boost ranging from 2,000 to 50,000 kronor. Together, Radiovågen and Livemusiklyftet complement STIM's other music-promotion work and help ensure that more musical expressions can continue to be created, performed and reach listeners.
