Connected to Stim or voting member – what's the difference?
Being connected to Stim: If you have written a song that has been played publicly or has been released, you can connect to Stim – or "join Stim." This means, among other things, that we monitor when your music is played and make sure you get paid for it – simply put, you receive Stim money. Music publishers can of course also connect to Stim under roughly the same principles.
Being a voting member: A music creator or music publisher connected to Stim can apply for voting membership in Stim (see criteria below). As a member of Stim, you can participate in Stim’s general meeting. This means an opportunity to actively influence Stim’s operations and make decisions on issues that are important to you and other music creators and music publishers.
The following criteria apply to become a voting member:
- To become a member as a music creator, you must, for at least three consecutive years prior to applying for membership, have received payments from Stim of at least SEK 200 per year.
- For music publishers, the requirement is that the publisher, for three consecutive years, has received payments from Stim amounting to at least the threshold for VAT registration according to the Swedish Tax Agency.
