Live performances make up a significant part of a creator's success. The Live Music Lift / Livemusiklyftet aims to support musical works that have been performed live but that have not yet generated substantial income or had many performances.

The Live Music Lift / Livemusiklyftet is one of several initiatives within Stim's Program for Musical Diversity and may apply to music performed at any of approximately 300 representative venues around the country.

The Live Music Lift / Livemusiklyftet is dynamic and develops over time, giving Stim the annual opportunity to award grants to music that is underserved by the market.

Stim appoints an expert group that each year proposes a representative selection of venues and then reviews whether the repertoire performed shows musical breadth. Which venues are included changes over time. Payments from The Live Music Lift / Livemusiklyftet are made once a year and can give rightsholders a financial boost in the range of 2,000–50,000 SEK.

The venues themselves do not receive the money, instead it goes to the creators and publishers behind the repertoire performed at these venues. This gives us certainty that we are awarding funds to music that enriches the Swedish music scene nationwide.

The process and expert group

An expert group selects roughly 300 Swedish venues that contribute to a diversity of musical expressions and that are active across the country.

Stim receives these proposals and analyzes the repertoire using the criteria for The Live Music Lift / Livemusiklyftet to identify music that represents diversity but has not yet succeeded commercially.

The expert group then reviews the material and assesses the distribution based on, for example, geographical spread and different venue types. If adjustments are needed the expert group provides feedback to Stim.

If necessary, the process is repeated with the expert group proposing additional venues until they are satisfied and can submit a final recommendation to Stim's CEO, who makes the decision to make grants via The Live Music Lift / Livemusiklyftet.
