Releasing your own music

If you wish to release your own music on CD or equivalent, you can apply for exemption from the licence fee for the first edition.

The exemption is valid for max. 1,000 copies

Please note that the production should be invoiced in line with the standard price list unless all the terms listed below are fulfilled.

The following terms must be met for you to receive a free licence*:

  • You must own all rights to the music yourself, or together with the music group to which you belong (the members of the group must be specified).

  • If the music has been published, the publishing firm must be owned by you/your group.

  • The catalogue number must be your own and not assigned from a record company.

  • You or the music group to which you belong must be listed as the responsible party with NCB.

  • Voluntary and economic associations cannot be exempt from fees for their own music.

*An administrative fee of 675 SEK must, however, be paid.

What to do

Complete the NCB application (opens in a new window). It must be clear that you yourself are the artist behind all the works. State on the last page, where you approve your application under '"Other information for NCB", that you would like exemption from the NCB fee because you are releasing your own music. Submit the NCB application no later than 5 days before production. You will then receive an exemption certificate from NCB showing that you have received approval from us to release your own music.

Register subsequent editions of the record simply by selecting "Further edition" in the NCB application.

Don't forget to register your musical works
Always register song titles for release with STIM's works register. It is not enough to send an NCB registration - each title must also be registered with STIM. You can do this via "My Pages".
