A living romance tradition threads its way through the past two centuries of Swedish music, one in which each generation has made their mark and in their own special ways contributed with musical interpretations of new or timeless poetry. Early modernists such as Hilding Rosenberg and Moses Pergament contributed to the steady renewal of the romance, and since the 1950s, the genre has been cultivated both by more traditional and modernistic composers. The collection presented here is mostly drawn from the latter group, among others three important members of the so called Monday Group.
